Deck hardware is where material grade decides service life. In hot, salt-laden coastal air, AISI 304 stainless stains and eventually pits in exposed positions where AISI 316 will not, and the price difference is small against replacing a fitting and making good the deck around it. We quote grade explicitly rather than calling hardware "marine grade".
